COURT HOUSE– On Saturday, Jan 2, Middle Township Police received a call of a pedestrian motor vehicle accident in front of TJ Maxx in Cape May Court House. When officers arrived, it was discovered that the injured pedestrian was off duty Middle Township Police Corporal Fran Fiore.
Cpl. Fiore was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center with serious leg injuries from being pinned between the vehicles.
The investigation revealed that Cpl. Fiore was parked in front of TJ Maxx on the Route 9 side and was standing behind his vehicle with the hatch open, loading his vehicle.
It was brought to the Herald’s attention that both vehicles were in a fire zone in front of the store at the time of the accident.
A blue Dodge 1500 pickup truck driven by Edward R. Williams, 51, of the Villas backed into Cpl. Fiore and then Cpl. Fiore’s minivan, pinning Fiore’s legs between the vehicles. Williams then pulled his vehicle forward and parked.
A concerned citizen took the keys from Williams, at Cpl. Fiore’s request.
Edward Williams was subsequently arrested for DWI and transported to police headquarters. He was charged with DWI and Aggravated Assault by Auto 3 degree. Bail was set at $50,000. 10% and he was transported to Cape May County Correctional Center.
