COURT HOUSE — Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Middle Township Police Chief Christopher Leusner announce the arrest of two Middle Township residents for attempted murder and various weapon charges. Andre “Pooie” Moore, 25 and Malcom “X” Jones, 25, were arrested at a residence located in Cape May Court House.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. on July 11, 2013, the Middle Township Police Department responded to the 1100 block of New Jersey Avenue section of Burleigh for a report of shots being fired at a residence. Upon arrival at the residence, it was learned that two males had walked up to the residence and fired at least four shots at the house. A female resident advised that she had received a graze wound to her face during the shooting. The female refused medical treatment.
The ensuing investigation, involved members of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force, the Crime Scene Unit and the Middle Township Detective Division and the Cape May County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit.
During the investigation it was learned both Moore and Jones have ties to the BLOODS street gang and there are indications that there is some sort of power struggle within their particular Blood Set. The investigation also revealed that there have been recent, unreported shootings at the same residence as well as throughout Cape May County. Prosecutor Taylor urges the public to notify their local police department anytime they suspect a shooting may have occurred.
As a result of the investigation, Andre Moore and Malcom Jones were identified as being involved in the shooting. Andre Moore and Malcom Jones were charged with the following crimes and lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 cash bail;
Attempted Murder, a crime of the first degree; Aggravated Assault, a crime of the second degree; Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose; a crime of the second degree and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; a crime of the second degree; Certain persons not to have weapons; a crime of the second degree.
Prosecutor Taylor advises that persons convicted of a first degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of 10 to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison; persons convicted of a second degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
