WILDWOOD – Members of the Wildwood Police Department Patrol Division responded to a supermarket on the 5200 block Park Boulevard at 7:01 a.m., June 4, for a report of a subject inside a vehicle acting in an alarming manner. Officers on scene were able to locate and then communicate with the subject in the vehicle, who was later identified as Charles Weber, 63, of Hatboro, Pa.
According to a post on Wildwood Police Department’s Facebook page, Weber was displaying a handwritten sign in the front window of his vehicle which referenced a bomb. Officers remained at a distance while giving Weber commands to exit the vehicle, and he was taken into custody without incident.
A secure perimeter was maintained at the scene and the Atlantic City Bomb Squad responded and inspected the vehicle for any explosive devices, with negative results.
Weber was charged with false public alarm, third degree. He was processed and released on a summons complaint and transported to Cape Regional Medical Center.
Wildwood Crest Police Department, Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Cape May County Sheriff’s Department, Atlantic City Police Department Bomb Squad, Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, FBI (Atlantic City Office) Bomb Technician, and Wildwood Fire Department also responded to the incident and assisted with the investigation.
The individual(s) listed is/are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
