WILDWOOD – On May 20 at approximately 6:30 p.m. members of the Wildwood Police Department Uniformed Patrol Division responded to the area of Maple Avenue and the Boardwalk to investigate a report of fight.
Upon the arrival of the police officers to the scene, it was ascertained that Julio Costales-Torres had cut the arrn of one victim, with a folding knife and had threatened to cut a second victim.
After Mr. Costales-Torres was identified by the victim as the perpetrator, he was placed under arrest.
The victim who had been injured was identified as Sean O’Quinn, a twenty-nine year old male who resides in the City of Wildwood.
The second victim was identified as Brad Sims, a thirty-four year old male who resides in North Wildwood.
Members of the Wildwood Police Department Detective Division responded for further investigation into the incident.
It was learned that Mr. Costales-Torres, a thirty- nine year old male, had an outstanding warrant from the Municipal Court of Newark, New Jersey in the amount of $2,500.
It was also learned that although Mr. Costales-Torres had been residing in Wildwood for over a month, he had failed to register as a Megan.’s Law offender.
Julio Costales-Torres was charged with two counts of aggravated assault (a crime of the second degree), possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (a crime of the fourth degree), unlawful possession of a weapon (a crime of the fourth degree), a certain person not to be in possession of a weapon (a crime of the fourth degree), and failure to register within ten days as a Megan’s Law offender (a crime of the third degree), The
Honorable Judge David DeWeese set bail on these offenses at $50,000 cash/bond no ten percent with a condition of release being no contact with either of the victims. Mr. Costales-Torres could not post the required bail and was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Center.
