DEL HAVEN – Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Middle Township Police Chief Christopher Leusner announced the May 31 arrest of Shafiq Cade-Smith, 23, and Jason Viola, 23, of Del Haven, for the distribution of Alprazolam, also known as Xanax, and marijuana.
The arrest was the conclusion of a cooperative investigation between the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Task Force, Middle Township Police Department, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the U.S. Postal Service. The investigation was the result of approximately 1,600 pills of alleged Xanax being delivered to Cade-Smith’s residence via the U.S. mail.
Cade-Smith was arrested May 31 during the execution of a court-authorized search warrant at his residence on Millman Boulevard in Del Haven by the Cape May County Regional SWAT Team. Upon entry, members of the SWAT Team found Cade-Smith attempting to destroy the alleged Xanax pills.
Seized during the investigation were numerous pills, which tested positive for Alprazolam (Xanax) and an amount of marijuana. During the search warrant, another resident, Viola, was found to be in possession of approximately 1 pound of marijuana and was placed under arrest.
Cade–Smith was charged with possession of CDS (Xanax), third degree, possession with the intent to distribute CDS (Xanax), third degree, possession of CDS (marijuana), disorderly persons offense, obstruction, fourth degree, and destruction of evidence, fourth degree. Cade–Smith was processed and released with a summons pending court proceedings.
Viola was charged with possession of CDS (marijuana), disorderly persons offense, and possession with the intent to distribute CDS (marijuana), third degree. Viola was processed and released with a summons pending court proceedings.
