VILLAS — Lower Township Mayor Michael Beck and Police Chief Edward Donohue honored retiring police officers Sgt. First Class William Hienkel and Lt. Chris Winter at Monday’s Township Council meeting. Both officers served the township for over 25 years.
Winter was promoted to detective in 1991, to detective first class in 1995, to sergeant in 1998 and to lieutenant in 2006. He was instrumental in the day-to-day operations of the administrative division including the communications center, police clerk’s records section and overseeing the department’s accreditation by the state. Winter was also a certified arson investigator.
Hienkel was promoted to detective in 1991, to sergeant in 1998 and to sergeant first class in 2005. He was instrumental in the running the day-to-day operations of the traffic division and along with planning and implementation of major events.
Hienkel was a member of both Lower Township and county SWAT Teams.
