VILLAS — Lower Township police have arrested a man they allege is responsible for a robbery at a local pharmacy, located on Bayshore Road, Villas.
According to a release, the incident occurred just before 1:30 p.m. Sept. 2, 2018.
On Sept. 3, Dustin A. Washington, 32, of Charlotte, N.C., was arrested on Bucknell Avenue in Del Haven, where he had been visiting for several weeks.
The investigation evolved quickly because the pharmacy, nearby businesses and citizens in the area of the pharmacy, allowed officers to view their video surveillance systems.
That gave officers the make, model and color of the vehicle they believed Washington used to commit the robbery.
Given that information, detectives were able to locate the vehicle and identify a possible suspect.
A court-authorized search warrant was obtained to seize and search the vehicle. Washington was taken into custody after initially providing a false name to police.
Washington is also wanted for committing an armed robbery in North Carolina Aug. 1 of this year. He has an extradition warrant out of that state, which he will answer once his charges in New Jersey have been adjudicated.
In reference to the New Jersey offenses, a warrant was issued by the Municipal Court Judge Thomas Hillegass charging Washington with robbery, terroristic threats, theft of over $500 from the pharmacy.
He was also charged with obstruction of the administration of law, for providing a false name to police.
Washington was taken to the Cape May County Correctional Center pending a court hearing.
