By Herald Staff

OCEAN CITY — Superior Court Judge Raymond A. Batten sentenced Shannon McKenzie, 21, of 404 Haven Avenue to four years in state prison on May 9 for a robbery that took place June 30 at Fourth and West Avenue.
According to Ocean City Police, on June 30, 2007 officers from the department took part in a covert operation to find those involved in several strong-arm robberies that had taken place.
In each robbery, the victim was physically assaulted, and money and or clothing was taken by an unknown group of suspects ranging from two to four people.
Several plain-clothes officers too part in the surveillance in the north end of the city.
At about 2:15 a.m. McKenzie, on a bicycle, approached one of the undercover officers in the 300 block alley between West and Haven avenues. They had a brief conversation, and the officer was subsequently robbed, although he was unhurt.
Several back-up officers responded to the area and apprehended McKenzie in the area of the Ocean City Housing Authority.
