COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up 28 indictments July 11.
The abbreviation CDS below stands for controlled dangerous substance.
A charge of “certain person not to have a weapon” can be brought against someone possessing a weapon who was previously convicted of a felony.
The following actions are alleged by law enforcement agents. Persons named are innocent until proven otherwise in court.
Ernest F. Irons
Police responding to a fight in the parking lot of a Villas convenience store eventually arrested Ernest Irons, 38, of Villas. Irons was indicted for third-degree theft and possession of heroin.
Michael Hamilton, Judith Hamilton
Michael, 43, and Judith Hamilton, 63, both of Villas, were named in a six-count indictment that followed from a raid on their residence in April.
Both individuals were indicted for conspiracy to distribute heroin, possession of a CDS and possession with intent to distribute, each count third degree.
Michael Hamilton faced additional counts for endangering the welfare of a child, third degree, using a juvenile in a crime, second degree and hindering apprehension, fourth degree. Police reports claim that an attempt was made to use a 12-year-old in the home to hide evidence.
Erik James
Erik James, 40, of Court House, was indicted for third-degree aggravated assault in a situation that the indictment stated met the criteria for domestic violence. James is also facing a second-degree robbery count for using force in robbing the same female victim.
Daniel Craver
Daniel Craver, of Dennis Township, faces a third-degree charge for absconding from parole. The indictment states that Craver went “into hiding with the purpose to avoid supervision.”
Kenny Calverley
Kenny Calverley, 29, of Wildwood, was indicted for theft of a bank debit card, fourth degree, and fraudulent use of the card at a pharmacy, a food market and another location. The fraudulent use of the card added three third-degree counts to his indictment.
Angel Adorno, Miguel Claudio
Angel Adorno and Miguel Claudio, both of Wildwood, were each charged with third-degree possession of a CDS,
Adorno with oxycodone and Claudio with heroin and fentanyl. Claudio also faces a third-degree count for possession with intent to distribute and a second-degree count for intent within 500 feet of public property, the Wildwood Housing Authority.
Frederick Atkinson
Frederick Atkinson was indicted on two fourth-degree counts for theft by deception and violation of the contractor registration act. The indictment states that Atkinson was “making or selling home improvements” in Stone Harbor without registering with the state as required.
Jailene Ayala
Jailene Ayala, 21, of Villas, faces a second-degree aggravated assault indictment stemming from an incident with a male victim in Lower Township in May.
Conviction for a second-degree offense can carry a prison term of five to 10 years.
Matthew Braswell
Matthew Braswell, 29, of Millville, was indicted for third-degree burglary and second-degree theft. The indictment states that Braswell entered a structure in Upper Township and took moveable property valued at more than $75,000.
Raekwon Cade
Raekwon Cade, 22, of Court House, was indicted for third-degree aggravated assault in an incident which the indictment states meets the definition of domestic violence.
Jonathan Bateman, Michael Knight, Michael Malinowski, John Shore, Donovan Smith, Tyler Tepe, Erik Meyer and Jennifer Thierjung
Each of the listed individuals was separately indicted for possession of a CDS. In the case of Donovan Smith, 35, of Villas, police reports state that he was also charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI).
Lewis Lake
Lewis Lake, 25, of Oreland Park, Pa., was indicted for second-degree eluding police. Police reports indicate that Lake was also charged with DWI by Middle Township Police.
The indictment states that Lake refused to obey a sign to bring his car to a complete stop. His attempts to elude police caused a “risk of death or injury” to others leading to the second-degree count.
Angel Martinez
Angel Martinez, of Wildwood, was named on a nine-count indictment for third-degree possession of a CDS, heroin, possession with intent, third degree, intent within 1,000 feet of a school, third degree, and within 500 feet of public property, second degree.
The presence of metal knuckles and a knife added two counts of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, one of possession of a prohibited weapon and another second-degree count for possession of a weapon while engaged in a CDS crime.
Kameron Mitchell, Alexander Rivera, Christian Santiago
Kameron Mitchell, 20, Alexander Rivera, 25, and Christian Santiago, 26, all of Woodbine, were all indicted for first-degree robbery and second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery.
They also each face counts for unlawful possession of a weapon, a handgun, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, each firearms count is also second degree. The first degree count can carry a prison term of 10 to 20 years.
Rivera, who was previously convicted of assault in a domestic violence situation in North Dakota, also faces a third-degree count for certain person in the current indictment.
Justin Rovira
Justin Rovira, of North Cape May, was indicted for third-degree burglary of a residence on Atlantic Avenue.
Matthew Robson
Matthew Robson, of Ocean City, was indicted for second-degree theft and third-degree possession of a CDS, cocaine.
According to the indictment from February to June 2018, Robson took movable property belonging to a telephone company. The combined value of the property exceeded $75,000
Vincent Pombo
Vincent Pombo, 40, was indicted for making terroristic threats, third degree, to a female victim in Middle Township. Pombo also faces two fourth-degree counts of criminal mischief and obstruction of the administration of law related to damage he did to property at the County Prosecutor’s Office.
Daniel Pfeifer
Daniel Pfeifer, of Rio Grande, was indicted for two counts of third-degree burglary, a count of fourth-degree theft, greater than $200 and less than $500, along with fourth-degree counts for unlawful possession of a weapon and certain person.
The weapon was a folding knife. The certain person charge stemmed from the fact that Pfeifer had a previous conviction for aggravated assault in Gloucester County.
Kelly Smith
Kelly Smith, of Upper Township, was indicted for possession of a CDS, third degree, buprenorphine, and fourth-degree theft from an Upper Township food store.
Joseph Steel
Joseph Steel faces a single count of fourth-degree violation of community supervision. Steel was convicted of endangering the welfare of a child in 2002, requiring him to submit to community supervision.
The indictment claims that Steel failed “to refrain from purchasing, using, and possessing dangerous substances.”
Mary Waddell
Mary Waddell, 26, Delmont, faces an eight-count indictment stemming from an incident in Dennis Township in May. The indictment states that Waddell “recklessly caused serious bodily injury” to two other individuals when she drove a motor vehicle while her license were suspended. Two other individuals were also injured less seriously.
Waddell faces two counts of third degrees violation of public health safety law, two counts of fourth-degree driving with a suspended license and four counts of aggravated assault.
