STONE HARBOR – Stone Harbor Police Department were called to the 9100 block First Avenue June 30 at 6:45 a.m. for a report of a man attempting to force entry into the back of a residence using some type of object. Upon arrival, officers found Patrick R. Ward, 19, of Yardley, Pa. on the property, shirtless and suspected of being intoxicated.
Investigation and witness accounts revealed that Ward had utilized the round lid of a charcoal grill to attempt to force entry into the residence by repeatedly smashing it against the rear door. Ward’s efforts resulted in damage to the residence as well as to the Weber charcoal grill lid. There was no one home at the residence at the time of this incident.
Ward was placed under arrest and charged with attempted burglary, a crime of the third degree, criminal mischief, a crime of the fourth degree, and other related charges. He was released to a family member after processing.

This case is pending review by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
