COURT HOUSE – A Cape May County grand jury handed up a two-count indictment, April 25, in the case of a hit-and-run at Route 9 and State Highway 147 (North Wildwood Boulevard) that took the life of a 59-year-old Burleigh resident.
The grand jury brought two second-degree counts against Del Haven resident Glenn D. Dunleavy for knowingly leaving the scene of an accident involving death and violating a public health and safety law. Conviction for a second-degree offense can carry a jail term of five to 10 years.
Police said a pedestrian was struck and killed in a crosswalk shortly after sunset June 20, 2022. Police reports following the incident said that Dunleavy was driving in excess of the speed limit when he hit Richard Geere, 59, of Burleigh.
Dunleavy is said to have left the scene and crashed his vehicle soon after on Indian Trail Road. He was arrested after fleeing the crash on foot.
