Don’t Buy Into Mail, Check Fraud

By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE — Lately, Middle Township police have received complaints from the public who have been contacted via e-mail, and told to cash checks they will be receiving from UPS or FedEx.
In a release, police said the instructions advise the recipient to keep 10 percent of the check and mail the balance to an erroneous location, somewhere in the United States.
The department advises the public not to participate in such check fraud schemes, to send money through the mail or to provide personal information to persons or companies that are not reputable or cannot be confirmed as legitimate businesses.
Any Middle Township resident with questions about such incidents should call police at (609) 465-8700, and ask for the Major Crimes Unit.
