Domestic Call Leads to DWI and Endangering The Welfare of a Child Arrest

By Herald Staff

On July 21, at approximately 5:15 p.m., the Lower Township Police Department received a call of a couple arguing in a motor vehicle at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Ellery Avenue in the Villas Section of Lower Township.
According to police, the caller reported that there was also a small child in the motor vehicle.
The caller then reported that the male was now attempting to drive the vehicle away with the female and child still inside the vehicle.
A short time later, Officer Dallas Bohn arrived on scene and observed the male driver staggering away from the driver’s side of the motor vehicle carrying a small child.
Investigation on scene determined that the male, later identified as William J. Lazaro, age 38 of Villas, was in fact operating the motor vehicle while intoxicated.
Lazaro was arrested at the scene and was then processed at the Lower Township Police Department, after which he was charged with the following motor vehicle and criminal offenses:
Driving While Intoxicated
Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Driver’s License
Driving While Intoxicated with a Minor Child in the Motor Vehicle
Endangering The Welfare of a Child, (a 4th degree crime)
Due to an extremely high blood alcohol reading following processing at the Lower Township Police Department, Lazaro was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for a Medical Evaluation by the Lower Township Rescue Squad.
