AVALON — Borough police dealt with an increasing numbers of reports of car burglaries, stolen bicycles and more according to a June 30 report.
On June 30, at 3:30 a.m., Molly Shankin flagged Officer William McDevitt down, 26, of Villanova, Pa.
She reported her car was stolen while parked near the Princeton Bar, 21st Street and Dune Drive.
As he aided Shankin, McDevitt located her care about a half block away, in the 200 block, 21st Street.
He then discovered she had a warrant for an unpaid motor vehicle summons from Ventnor.
McDevitt arrested Shankin and took her to headquarters for processing. She was released later on $232 bail.
Due to recent bicycle thefts, the department’s Bicycle Patrol Officers, Eric Skillman and Nick Villano performed a routine inquiry at 2:40 a.m. on June 30 on a cyclist, Daniel Corcoran, 22, of Wayne. Pa.
Their inquiry led to a theft charge against Corcoran when the owner of the bicycle he was riding reported it stolen later that morning.
Police ask that bicycle owners to lock their bicycles at night in a locked shed or garage. Additionally, bike owners should use chain locks when using bicycles in other areas of town when they park.
A series of car burglaries took place between the night of June 28 into the 29th, police reported.
Those burglaries occurred in the north end of the borough near 15th Street and First Avenue and 13th Street and Avalon Avenue.
Various items were taken from the unlocked cars including handheld electronic items, cash and wallets.
Police request that vehicle owners lock those vehicles when not in use.
Items of value should be removed from the vehicle and secured inside the residence, police stated.
