Cape May Police Report Attempted Child Abduction

By Jack Fichter

CAPE MAY — Cape May police were dispatched to the 1800 block of Delaware Avenue July 31 at approximately 11:30 a.m. to investigate an attempted child abduction.
Police met with a 10-year-old male victim who had been riding his bicycle in the area. He told officers he was approached by a white male with brown hair, approximately 30 to 40-years-old, driving a bright yellow pickup truck with a short bed and black bed handles.
The suspect, wearing a dark blue hat and dark blue collared shirt, attempted to lure the child into the truck informing him he needed to be wearing a bike helmet. The suspect told the youth he would transport him to his parent’s home.
When the victim refused to cooperate and reported he was contacting police, the suspect drove away. A search was conducted and information was relayed to neighboring departments and counties. Anyone with information is asked to call Cape May Police Detective Division: 609-884-9500.
