AVALON – Egidijus Riaubys, 22, a Lithuanian national who resides in Avalon over the summer months on an International Work Visa, was arrested for aggravated sexual assault, which occurred July 26 at approximately 3 a.m. in the 2300 Block of Ocean Drive in Avalon, County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Avalon Police Chief William McCormick announced in a release July 29.
There, Officer Ashworth and Officer Manning of the Avalon Police Department were patrolling the neighborhood on bike patrol and came upon a male subject assaulting an unconscious female. Officers immediately detained the male, who was later identified as Riaubys. The victim, a 28-year-old female from Pennsylvania, was transported, treated and later released from Cape Regional Medical Center.
Further investigation by the Avalon Police Department’s Detective Division and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office resulted in Riaubys being charged with aggravated sexual assault, a crime of the first degree, and lewdness, a crime of the fourth degree. Individuals convicted of a first degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of up to 10 to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison, and persons convicted of a fourth degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.
