Arrest Suspect Allegedly Trying to Break into Cold Spring Home

By Herald Staff

COLD SPRING — A local man was arrested by Lower Township police Sunday, Sept. 28 after homeowners reported a man was allegedly trying to force open a window of their home.
According to a release, at 6:45 a.m., a couple on Canterbury Way reported they were awakened by a loud banging noise. When they investigated, they saw a white male wearing a black cap attempting to force open the window of the home.
The husband went to the window and banged on the inside of it, which caused the male to flee.
Police responded and scoured the area. Cpl. Kevin Boyle discovered a subject that met the description of the intruder hiding behind a vehicle parked in a nearby driveway.
As the subject was interviewed, and on further investigation, he was found to possess a screwdriver, flashlight, gloves and various electronic devices.
The subject was Scott Rosell Takayama, 21, of the first block, Canterbury Way.
When officers went to his home, they observed a car that matched the description of a vehicle reported in a suspicious activity call at about 6 a.m. on Carriage Lane, Erma.
That report described a white male entering an electrical contractor’s truck, and a white car driving without lights on.
Inside the white car parked in front of Takayama’s home police saw an electrical wire power-crimping tool. The tool was determined to have a value of $1,000 and had allegedly been taken from the Carriage Lane truck.
Police also recovered a Philadelphia Police Department detective’s badge from Takayama, which had been reported stolen from a vehicle during the summer of 2008 in Cape May.
As a result of the police investigation, and items recovered from Takayama, he was charged with four counts of theft, three counts of burglary, possession of burglary tools and criminal mischief.
His bail was set at $15,000 cash.
Cpl. Kevin Boyle, Patrolman Matt Dickinson, Patrolman C.J. Ryan and Detective Chris Lambert investigated the incident.
