WILDWOOD – Twice in about two weeks, Wildwood Police Department (WPD) officers made multiple arrests after motor vehicle stops for illegal possession of handguns.
Police arrested three Pennsylvania residents, May 28, and charged them with carrying handguns without a permit.
According to a WPD press release, uniformed patrol officers conducted a motor vehicle stop involving a red 2021 Kia Forte near the intersection of Maple and Atlantic avenues at approximately 11:24 p.m. May 28.
During the motor vehicle stop, police noticed a firearm in plain view inside the cabin of the car. A similar incident occurred May 16 in the 200 block of East Pine Avenue. Police observed a handgun in plain sight inside the vehicle and ended up seizing three weapons and making three arrests.
After seeing the firearm, May 28, officers asked the five occupants to exit the vehicle and three were found to have loaded handguns on them. Police identified them as Michael Logue, 18, of Eddystone, Pennsylvania, Corey Caffo, 19, of Brookhaven, Pennsylvania, and Jaquan Cambridge-Stokes, 19, of Crum Lynne, Pennsylvania.
Police had the vehicle towed back to police headquarters and held as evidence.
Police said Logue was found to be in possession of a .22 caliber Pathfinder revolver handgun; Caffo was found to be in possession of an untraceable (called a “Ghost Gun”) 9mm semi-automatic handgun bearing no serial number; and Cambridge-Stokes was found to be in possession of a 9mm semi-automatic Glock 26 handgun. All three weapons were safely recovered and submitted as evidence.
As a result of this investigation, the defendants were charged with second-degree possession of a weapon without a permit to carry and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
Caffo received an additional charge of third-degree possession of an untraceable firearm.
All three defendants were incarcerated at the Cape May County Correctional Facility.
