COURT HOUSE — Middle Township police arrested three juveniles July 5 following an investigation of incidents at the site of Albrecht and Heun’s Future Mining & Recycling on Goshen Road.
The juveniles, ages 11 to 14, were all from Court House. Their names were not released.
The incidents, which began in May, included vandalism, arson and criminal mischief.
Police were called to the site on numerous occasions to investigate broken windows, graffiti and damage to heavy equipment.
The incidents ceased being harmless on July 1 when a fire was allegedly set onboard a dredge barge and in two pieces of heavy equipment.
According to police, cost to repair the damage to the property exceeds $100,000.
Police said they executed a search warrant at one of the juvenile’s homes and seized several items including “potato guns”, air pistols, camouflage clothing, computers, and instructions for making improvised explosive devices, incendiary devices and booby traps.
The investigation by township detectives revealed that the suspects would allegedly enter the property at night, when the mining operation was closed, and inflict the damage. Most of the incidents occurred over weekends.
The youths were turned over to their parents.
Police said, additional arrests are expected pending further investigation.
Township police and fire departments also responded to mulch fires at the Goshen Road site on May 7. The juveniles have not been connected to that fire, in which no buildings or equipment were damaged.
