COURT HOUSE – APRIL 11: The Cape May County Department of Health (DOH) reported 29 new cases of COVID-19 and three additional deaths. Confirmed cases continue to rise in the county, bringing the total number of cases to 145, with seven deaths.
DOH did not report the status of the outbreak yesterday, making the April 11 numbers a two-day total. Even for two days, the totals represent a significant growth in the number of cases.
The three additional deaths included two more residents of the Victoria Manor long-term care facility, in Lower Township, an 80-year-old male and a 75-year-old female. The third victim of the disease was a 73-year-old male, from Dennis Township. The county announced its first death from the virus April 4.
Lower Township now accounts for 57 total cases, with 50 still active, two off quarantine and five deaths. All of the township deaths have been attributed to the Victoria Manor contagion.
With this report, Woodbine joined the list of county municipalities that have at least one case. The only municipalities without a confirmed case are Cape May Point and Stone Harbor.
Despite the intense public interest in the spread of the disease, DOH announced that they will continue their practice of not reporting on Sundays. A county spokesman said the next regularly scheduled report will be on Monday.
The state report on the pandemic this afternoon listed 129 cases in Cape May County. The nature of the collection procedures from each of the state’s 21 counties and the multiple testing locations, means that the state numbers may lag the actual cases in a given county.
