Beach Theatre Sold

Cape May Beach Theatre

By Vince Conti

CAPE MAY – The Beach Theatre property, on Beach Avenue in Cape May, was sold at auction for $6.6 million Nov. 12 to Eustace Mita, chairman and chief executive officer of Icona Resorts. Icona Resorts owns and operates a hotel on Beach and Philadelphia avenues.
Mita plans a luxury hotel for the property across from Cape May Convention Hall. The successful bid came one day before Avalon Borough Council declined a request from Icona Avalon to vacate a public right of way to allow outside dining and service of alcohol on 79th Street.
Also bidding on the property was Carl Bunting, of Stone Harbor Theater LLC. Bunting hoped to restore the 1950’s movie house to its past glory. Bunting said he remains interested in finding a property in downtown Cape May to build a theater.
