STONE HARBOR – Longtime Stone Harbor resident and American Legion Post 331 member Frank D’Elia died at his home Dec. 9, according to Tom McCullough, American Legion Post 331 commander.
D’Elia, a resident of Stone Harbor since 1977, was a notable member of the community, as a servant of St. Pauls Church in Stone Harbor. Along with being a member of the church and American Legion Post 331, D’Elia was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
D’Elia served in World War II and fought in numerous battles, including the invasion of Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944 and the Battle of the Bulge. He was featured in the Nov. 6 Herald for turning 100 on Veterans Day (http://bit.ly/38qyt3f).
“Frank was an outstanding member of the American Legion Post 331 and lived his life to the fullest, and just recently celebrated his 100th birthday milestone this past Veterans Day,” McCollough stated, in an email. “My condolences go out to the D’Elia family.”
