The Sea Isle City Beach Patrol (SICBP) Alumni Committee will host their annual hall of fame vvening on Saturday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m. This event will take place at LaCosta Lounge, JFK Boulevard and Landis Avenue, and is open to all SICBP alumni, current guards and the public. Tickets will be available at the door for $20.00 each.
During the festivities, the SICBP Alumni Hall of Fame will induct two lifeguards into their organization, Richard Lawson and Brian Bowen.
Lawson, 62, served as a guard in the Townsend Inlet section of Sea Isle City from 1962 to 1971. Known to many as “Flash,” he was also a popular swimming instructor who taught many local children swimming and water safety. Some of his students also went on to become members of the SICBP.
Bowen, 41, is the third member of his family to be inducted into the SICBP Hall of Fame, following behind his father and uncle. After serving on the beaches of Sea Isle City for 8 years, he currently is a lifeguard in Florida, where he resides fulltime. Bowen, who is known for his swimming prowess, has won various competitions over the years and is also known as a top-notch surfer. Additionally, he is considered one of the best long-board paddlers in the country, according to event organizers.
“I am proud to say the SICBP Alumni Committee has selected two alumnus that represent us well,” said Alumni Hall of Fame President Tom McCann. “Both inductees were excellent lifeguards who took pride in running a good beach – and after all, that is what we are all about.”
