Woman Hit by Belleplain Ambulance Released from Hospital

By Harry B. Scheeler Jr.

WOODBINE— State police are investigating why an ambulance that was responding to a 9-1-1 call lost control and struck a woman sitting on her porch here on DeHirsh Avenue on Monday, July 13 at 5:22 p.m.
According to state police, the ambulance driven by Nicholas Hyduk, 28 of Millville was traveling northbound on Lincoln Avenue with emergency lights and sirens activated when Hyduk lost control striking 53 year-old Martha Perez.
Perez was airlifted to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City where she was treated and released.
Hyduk and his passenger Brian Glenning were treated and released on scene, according to police.
The global positioning system onboard the ambulance shows the ambulance was not traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash. According to Chief William King, Sr, the device showed the ambulances speed at 29 miles per hour when it past through the intersection where eyewitnesses say the ambulance lost control and went “air born”.
The accident is under investigation by Trooper Kutepow of the Woodbine station.
