Village Employee Recovering After Equestrian Accident

By Herald Staff

COLD SPRING — A 44-year-old employee of Historic Cold Spring Village was airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City by South Star medevac Wednesday, Aug. 26 at around 6:45 p.m. after a horse she long worked with kicked its back legs, and she was accidentally struck in the head.
According to Anne Salvatore, village executive director, the female victim is the village farmer who takes care of the 5-year-old gelding. Additionally, she drives the carriage pulled by that horse, which has a reputation for being friendly, and has a fondness for ice cream.
“He was just kicking up his back legs and she happened to be behind him,” said Salvatore, who declined to identify the victim without her permission.
“She is very knowledgeable and wonderful lady,” Salvatore said. “All of us are feeling very sad. She is in the hospital, and she is recovering.” It may be some time before the employee returns to work.
The mishap rendered the victim unconscious for about 10 minutes.
