UPDATE: Police Investigate Crash on George Redding Bridge

SHAWCREST — Lower Township police responded to a rollover accident on the George Redding Bridge where they located two vehicles that had been involved in the accident.
One vehicle had overturned after striking a concrete barrier and slid for approximately 150 feet before coming to rest. The second vehicle had hit a guardrail and come to rest after being struck by the first vehicle.
Police investigation disclosed that a 2000 Toyota Spyder driven by Louis Maldanado ,24, of North Wildwood, struck a 2010 Lincoln Mkx driven by Steven Shapiro, 61, of Staten Island. The Toyota after hitting the Lincoln veered back into the passing lane and struck a concrete barrier and overturned. The Lincoln had been pushed into the guardrail after being struck by the Toyota.
The Driver of the Toyota and passenger identified as Manuel Santiago, 27, of Bridgeton, were entrapped in the vehicle and upon being extricated were transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the Lincoln and his passenger, identified as Ruby Shapiro, 60, of Staten Island, refused medical treatment and were not transported to the hospital. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene and police were still investigating. Charges are pending.
Lower Township Police were assisted by Erma and Rio Grande Volunteer Fire Company along with Lower Township Rescue. The investigation is being conducted by Patrolman Robert Smith.
