RIO GRANDE — Four persons were injured in a three-vehicle accident on Route 47 (Wildwood Boulevard) on Sept. 11 at 10:02 p.m.
According to Middle Township police, the roadway was closed for about four hours as the investigation took place.
The crash started in the southbound lanes heading into Wildwood.
A vehicle operated by Jeanine Eliason, no age given, of Lower Township sideswiped a vehicle operated by Crystal Tozer of Lower Township. That caused her to spin from the right to left lane.
Eliason’s vehicle continued to cross the grass median into the northbound lane. Her vehicle continued to travel in the wrong lane, and struck a third vehicle that was operated by Lynn Scheid and Albert Unruh, who was in the passenger seat.
Scheid and Unruh were flown to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, where both were listed in critical condition.
Tozer was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center where she was treated and released with minor injuries.
Police arrested Eliason and charged her with driving while intoxicated.
Cpl. James Dougherty continues the investigation. Assisting in that investigation and event were, in addition to Middle Township police, the county Fatal Crash Investigation Unit, Rio Grande Volunteer Fire Co., Green Creek Volunteer Fire Co., Middle Township and Rio Grande rescue squads, Wildwood Fire-Rescue and AtlantiCare paramedics, who responded to the scene.
