STONE HARBOR — On Sept. 20 at 12:01 p.m. Stone Harbor Fire Rescue was dispatched to 105th Street beach for a water rescue.
According to a Stone Harbor Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 press release, upon arrival three people were observed in distress about 100 yards off shore.
A young female swimmer had become swept out in a rip current.
Her father attempted to rescue her along with another bystander on the beach and all three became stuck in the rip current.
The fire department quickly arrived and deployed two rescuers, Lt. Steve Ormrod and firefighter Edward Orzech, on surf rescue boards.
The firefighters successfully rescued the swimmers and returned them to shore.
All three refused medical treatment.
Fire Chief Roger Stanford commended the rescuers for their quick and professional action.
