State Trooper’s CPR Saves Woman

Trooper Didier Paul used CPR to revive a 70-year-old woman on the shoulder of the Garden State Parkway Aug. 17.

By Press Release

SWAINTON – A New Jersey State police officer used CPR to revive a woman on the shoulder of the Garden State Parkway Aug. 17.
Trooper Didier Paul was dispatched to a report of an accident southbound on the Garden State Parkway at milepost 11.1 at 4:22 p.m., according to a post on New Jersey State Police’s Facebook page.
When he arrived, he discovered a Chrysler van pulled over to the right shoulder. He removed the victim, Joan Murphy, 70, of North Wildwood, from the van because she was feeling ill. When Paul attempted to have Murphy sit in the front passenger seat, he realized that she was not breathing.
According to the post, Paul cautiously removed Murphy from the car, placed her on the ground, and began to perform CPR. Murphy quickly regained consciousness and began to breathe on her own after several chest compressions were administered.

Middle Township EMS (emergency medical services) provided further treatment at the scene before transporting Murphy to Cape Regional Medical Center where she was listed in stable condition.
