Serious Accident Closes Route 47, Two Airlifted

SOUTH DENNIS- Two women have been airlifted to Cooper University Trauma Center following a single-car crash that left one victim entrapped here on Route 47 Southbound in the area of mile marker 17.1 around 3:15 p.m. on October 7.
A compact Hyundai Accent left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a pole on the front passenger side of the car. The vehicle then traveled back into the roadway, crossing both lanes of traffic, coming to rest partially in the Northbound lane.
The driver, Louise Samuel, 59 of Villas, was treated for unspecified injuries by Belleplain EMS. Her mother, Rose Ianelli, 90 of Villas, had to be extricated from the vehicle by Dennis Township Fire Company.
Both were airlifted via Southstar and Medic-5 to Atlantic City Regional Medical Center.
The Cape May County Fire Police was requested to the scene by State Police to shut the roadway down for their investigation. Both lanes were closed for approximatley one hour, and traffic was diverted to alternate routes.
The accident is under investigation by Troopers Gaetion Canonico of the Woodbine Station. Anyone with information should contact him at 609-861-5698.
