Police Charge Juvenile After Crash with Drug Offenses

OCEAN CITY — On Jan. 27 at approximately 11:29 a.m., Ocean City police and firefighters responded to the intersection of 10th Street and Ocean Avenue to investigate a motor vehicle accident.
When officers arrived, they found a severely damaged 2005 Volkswagon that struck a utility pole on the Southeast corner of the intersection.
The initial investigation showed that the vehicle, with a juvenile operator, was traveling southbound on Ocean Avenue approaching 10th Street. According to police, the vehicle accelerated, crossed the double yellow line, struck a utility pole (Causing it to completely sever), struck two fixed parking meters, and finally came to rest on the Southeast side of the intersection.
The juvenile operator of the vehicle was transported to Shore Memorial Hospital with facial and leg injuries.
While investigating the accident, officers recovered small amounts of marijuana, heroin, and drug paraphernalia.
At this time charges are pending and include: driving under the influence of a narcotic; careless driving; possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle; possession of heroin; possession of marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Several members of the Ocean City Police Department assisted with the investigation, but the investigation is being handled by Patrol Officers Laura Hall and Craig Wilson, as well as Sgt. Charley Simonson of the Traffic Safety Unit.
