Juvenile Driver Charged with DWI in Head-On Collision

COLD SPRING – Members of the Lower Township Police Department Patrol Division responded to the intersection of State Highway Route 9 and Route 109 in the Cold Spring section of Lower Township Tuesday, June 16 at 5:50 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle crash.
It was discovered that a vehicle traveling northbound on Route 109 made an illegal left turn at the intersection with Route 9 and struck a mini-van carrying a family of five in a head-on collision.
The driver who caused the collision, a 17-year-old female from Pennsylvania, who was with an 18-year-old female friend, along with the five people in the mini-van were all taken to the Cape Regional Medical Center in Court House to be treated for their injuries.
Lower Township Police charged the driver with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to wear a seat belt, controlled dangerous substance (CDS) in a motor vehicle and several other traffic summonses in addition to juvenile complaints for marijuana and drug paraphernalia located in the vehicle.
The incident is still being investigated at this time and additional charges are possible.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
