COURT HOUSE – Superior Court Judge Susan Maven on Monday doubled the bail of Nicholas Golden, who is accused of first-degree aggravated manslaughter in the vehicular accident that killed Craig Lozier in July, The Press of Atlantic City reports.
Prosecutor Rob Johnson sought to increase Golden’s bail to $200,000 based on the severity of the charges, which were upgraded from a second-degree vehicular homicide “due to the level of recklessness involved,” Johnson said after court on Monday.
A grand jury indicted Golden on the more serious charge in March.
Lozier, a 20-year-old college student from Middle Township, was riding his motorcycle in the northbound lane of Route 47 on July 21 when Golden’s car, traveling southbound, crossed into Lozier’s lane.
Golden, 18, faces driving while intoxicated and drug-related charges in the accident.
