House Crash Likely Medically Caused

By Press Release

NORTH CAPE MAY – A 72-year-old woman was taken to the hospital following an 11 a.m. July 21 crash that involved a vehicle striking a residence in North Cape May.
The vehicle, driven by Carol Giorgi, from Doylestown, Pa. was traveling east on Townbank Road. A witness, Justin Lewis, who was traveling west on Townbank Road advised officers that the vehicle driven by Giorgi suddenly crossed the center line, causing him to swerve to the shoulder. Lewis then observed Giorgi’s vehicle leave the roadway and strike the residence located in the 600 block Townbank Road.
Crash investigation revealed that Giorgi potentially suffered from some type of medical emergency while she was traveling east on Townbank Road. As a result, Giorgi’s vehicle ran off of the roadway and struck the residence.
Members of Town Bank Volunteer Fire Department and Lower Township Rescue also responded, and assisted with the scene, as well as treatment of the driver. Lower Township Building Inspector Gary Playford responded to the scene to determine the structural integrity of the residence, which was determined to be habitable.
Giorgi was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
The crash investigation was ongoing.
