Gas Line Hit, ‘Nest’ Evacuated

Gas Line Hit

By

RIO GRANDE – Middle Township Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle that backed into a gas line in Robbins Nest Plaza off Route 47 in Rio Grande at 2:48 p.m. Feb. 16.
Charles Kirner, 58, was backing up his vehicle to his store in Robbins Nest Plaza when he struck a gas meter, causing a gas leak, according to Middle Township Police Capt. John Edwards.
As a result, employees of businesses in the plaza were evacuated and the stores closed for a short period while responders operated on scene.
No injuries were reported.
South Jersey Gas Company “had a quick response” and was “able to shut off the gas,” said Edwards.
Rio Grande Fire Company also responded.
No charges have been filed at this time, and the incident is under investigation.
