MARMORA – A driver involved in a motor vehicle accident Jan. 5 succumbed to her injuries just after midnight Jan. 8, according to New Jersey State Police Woodbine barracks.
Jenabelle Reese, 74, died at 12:30 a.m. at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus, according to a report on Shore News Today.
Troopers from New Jersey State Police Woodbine Station were detailed to a serious motor vehicle accident Jan. 5 at 8:47 a.m. involving three vehicles on US Highway 9 at milepost 29.0 in Upper Township, according to a release.
A silver 2014 Chevrolet was traveling northbound on US Highway 9. For an unknown reason, the vehicle drifted into the southbound lane of travel, then suddenly veered back toward the northbound lane. The vehicle then lost control and struck a blue 2016 Ford Explorer which was parked and unoccupied on US Highway 9 northbound. The impact caused the Ford Explorer to strike a white 2014 F250 which was also parked and unoccupied on US Highway 9 northbound. The impact caused the silver Chevrolet to overturn on its roof in the center of US Highway 9.
An off-duty Ocean City police officer, identified as Keith Johnson on Ocean City Police Department’s Facebook page, had removed Reese from her vehicle and started CPR, according to Shore News Today.
Reese, the driver of the silver Chevrolet, sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was subsequently transported to Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, N.J. before she was taken to AtlantiCare, the report states.
Responding units included: Marmora Fire Dept., Upper Township EMS, AtlantiCare Paramedics, NJSP Crime Scene Investigation – South Unit, and NJSP Fatal Accident Investigation – South Unit. This investigation is still ongoing.
