SEA ISLE CITY – The Coast Guard rescued two people from the water today 250 yards from the shore here near 10th Street after the boat they were aboard capsized.
The Coast Guard received a call at 5:05 p.m. from a member of the Sea Isle City Police Department reporting a 20-foot boat with two people aboard capsized.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Townsend Inlet arrived on scene and retrieved both people from the water.
The rescue boat crew transported the two people to Coast Guard Station Townsend Inlet and transferred them to emergency medical personnel.
Emergency medical personnel transported them to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment of hypothermia.
The two people were wearing life jackets while awaiting rescue in the water.
The Coast Guard urges boaters to wear a life jacket due to the fact that almost three-quarters of all fatal boating accident victims drowned, and of those, nearly 90% were not wearing a life jacket. Accidents can happen very quickly, sometimes leaving no time to don a life jacket.
