Bicyclist Hit by Vehicle in Marmora

MARMORA — A bicyclist was struck by a vehicle here on Route 9 and Tuckahoe Road at 4:21 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7. The Upper Township Rescue Squad requested a medevac helicopter to the scene.
According to State Police, Edward J. Whatley, 64, or Corbin City, was driving a Ford Explorer that was towing a landscape trailer. While Whatley was making a left turn onto Route 9 south from Tuckahoe Road the tire on the trailer he was towing stuck the rear wheel of a tricycle being operated by Patricia Marino, 67, of Upper Township.
The impact caused Marino to be thrown from her bike causing injury.
South Star reported Marino to have a possible leg fracture and minor head injury. The flight crew reported the Marino to be in stable condition. She was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. Medic 8 and the Marmora Fire Department also responded.
Whatley was charged with careless driving, according to state police.
The accident is under investigation by Trooper Guido at the Woodbine station.
