Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes Into Home

TUCKAHOE — An alleged intoxicated driver crashed into the front porch of an Upper Township residence causing it to collapse on Wed., May 23. State police from the Woodbine Barracks responded to the accident on Route 50, milepost 6.7.
According to police, the driver of the motor vehicle was traveling northbound on Route 50 and began to cross over into the southbound lane of travel. Continuing northbound, the vehicle drove over the curb, sidewalk, and into multiple fixed objects.
The Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Department along with the Upper Township Volunteer Rescue Squad responded to the accident. The driver, identified as David J. Mayer, was able to exit the vehicle under his own accord.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle was traveling at an excessive speed. Further, the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was charged accordingly.
The driver was transported to Shore Memorial Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
