Middle Requests Speed Survey for Portion of Route 9

By Vince Conti

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP – The township is asking the state Bureau of Traffic Engineering to redo a 2021 traffic study undertaken in response to citizen complaints about the speed limit between Crest Haven Road (County Road 609) and Avalon Boulevard (County Road 601) on Route 9. The earlier study resulted in no change to the posted speed limit for that stretch of the highway.

The Township Committee passed a resolution on Oct. 21 asking that a follow-up speed limit survey be done “in the best interest of the community.” Revisiting the issue came about after the township heard from constituents with “additional concerns.”

The resolution asks that the Bureau of Traffic Engineering “confirm that the current approved speed limit of 50mph shall remain in place.”
