COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Committee honored local Middle Township High School freshman and cross country runner Jamar Mack Monday, Nov. 6, for an act of “outstanding sportsmanship and compassion for others.”

Mack was also honored by Assemblyman Antwan McClellan (R-1st) on behalf of the New Jersey Legislature and by remarks read into the Congressional Record by U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-2nd).

At the Cape-Atlantic cross country championships at Stockton University Thursday, Oct. 19, Mack saw Egg Harbor Township High School’s Cam Koryga stumble and fall in obvious pain. Mack sacrificed his own pace in the race to help Koryga stand. Mack put his arm around Koryga’s waist and helped him to the finish line when he guided Koryga, who had been ahead of him in the race until he fell, across the line first.

Koryga finished 24th and Mack 25th. Mayor Tim Donohue said Mack served as a role model for everyone.
