Middle Police Unveil Car to Fight Drunk Driving

The Middle Township Police Department’s new HERO Campaign Patrol Vehicle.

By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE – The Middle Township Police Department has introduced its new HERO Campaign Patrol Vehicle as a moving reminder of the importance of safe and sober driving.

The department said the specially marked car is hitting the streets to honor designated drivers and encourage everyone to make responsible choices. The department thanked Bill Elliott and the Hero Campaign, saying, “We couldn’t have done this without you. Your dedication and hard work with the Hero Campaign will help make our roads safer for the residents and visitors of Middle Township.”

The HERO Campaign is named for Elliott’s son, Navy ensign John Elliott, who was on his way home to celebrate his mother’s birthday in July 2000 when he was killed by a drunk driver.

“By choosing to drive sober, you’re not just protecting yourself – you’re saving lives. Let’s work together to keep our roads safe,” the department’s announcement said.
