COURT HOUSE – The Middle Township Committee is establishing a garden club, intended to support “recreational community gardening” that aims to beautify township- and privately-owned properties.

The garden club, being created through an ordinance introduced at the committee’s meeting on Earth Day, April 22, was advanced by residents and business owners Matt Wetzel and Don Thomas, who will serve as chair and vice chair respectively of the club. The club has no limit on its membership. The township committee by resolution also appointed Karen Camagna, Trish Cosby and Karin Parker to one-year terms.

Cosby identified three early club priorities as beautification of the American Legion property and of a downtown streetscape along Mechanic Street and its junction with Route 9, and the establishment of a Hometown Heroes program.

Mayor Christopher Leusner said he and the others on the governing body were excited by the prospect of what the club could bring to the township. We “look forward to facilitating partnerships and projects throughout our hometown,” he said.

Residents and businesses looking to volunteer and/or donate to the club’s efforts can contact club secretary Alicia Woodrow at awoodrow@middletownship.com.
