COURT HOUSE – After more than a year of regulatory review, the final merger of Cape Regional Health System and Cooper University Health System will have to wait one more month: The goal of a June 1 closing on the merger fell victim to a late May scheduling on the docket at Superior Court.
Approval by the court is the final step in the regulatory review process. The hearing has been set for Tuesday, May 28.
According to a spokesperson for Cape Regional, “Since the hearing was scheduled for so late in the month, it was necessary to move the closing to July 1.” Approvals by the state Department of Health and the Office of the Attorney General have already been secured.
The closing on July 1 will give birth to Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional, a long name for what Cape Regional President Joanne Carrocino calls the merger of two strong brands.
