Injured While Riding in a Charity Event

A Marmora firefighter was injured while taking part in a charity ride on his motorcycle on Sunday, Oct. 13, on Route 55.

Stacey Kelly, organizer of a GoFundMe page for firefighter Phil Ferretti, said Ferretti was cut off by another rider and swerved to avoid a collision. Ferretti drove into a ditch and crashed, suffering a fractured skull, broken facial bones, a broken arm and broken fingers.

He remains in Cooper University Hospital, where he has had surgery for some of his injuries.

Further details about the accident and the charity ride were not immediately available.

On Oct. 16, Kelly posted her thanks to all who shared information and who donated to help cover Ferretti’s expenses, and for their prayers. Kelly, who identified Ferretti as her aunt’s husband, said he has a long road ahead of him.

“But as we all know, he’s a warrior,” she said.

Kelly said Ferretti was experiencing a lot of swelling and pain but that he always thanks his nurses and aides. She said he was scheduled to have surgery on his hand on Friday, Oct. 18. The orthopedic team was also working on reattaching a triceps muscle and doing wound care. She said the family was uncertain whether he would have to have surgery on sinuses and maxillary bones.

“He had an angel on his shoulder on Sunday, and we are beyond grateful for the outpouring of love and support. Please keep sending those prayers, they are definitely working,” Kelly said via the GoFundMe page.

Ferretti was a firefighter in Seaville before becoming a member of the Marmora Volunteer Fire Company. He and his wife, Jenny, have three children and live in Upper Township. Those wanting to donate or follow the story of his recovery should visit https://gofund.me/e20cd137.
