Man Arrested in Villas on Assault, Weapons Charges

By Herald Staff

VILLAS – Lower Township police arrested a man on weapons and aggravated assault charges after he allegedly fired a handgun during a dispute.

On Wednesday, July 17, the Police Department received a 911 call reporting possible gunshots heard in the first block of East Weber Avenue. Responding officers determined from surveillance footage that a dispute had occurred between individuals in a vehicle and residents of a home there.

During the dispute, a man identified as Corey J. Mackryan Jr., 23, of Philadelphia, who has lately been living in the Shawcrest section of Lower Township, was seen exiting the residence and discharging a handgun into the air.

Police Department detectives and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office also responded to the scene. As a result of their investigation, multiple search warrants were executed on the residence and on a vehicle connected to the incident.

Two Glock handguns – a Glock 19 and a Glock 27 – were seized. Police also seized an extended handgun magazine and hollow-point ammunition.

Mackryan was charged with multiple weapons offenses and aggravated assault. He was taken to the Cape May County Correctional Center pending court proceedings.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is encouraged to contact the Lower Township Police Department at 609-886-2711 or the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-465-1135.
