MacVEIGH, JOHN J. III, "Jack"

MacVEIGH, JOHN J., III John J. "Jack" MacVeigh III, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2024, at the age of 96, in Cape May Court House, NJ. Born on September 24, 1927, in Ridley Park, PA, Jack was a man whose life was marked by service, community involvement, and a deep love for his family and friends. Jack was the son of the late John Joseph MacVeigh, Jr. and Irene May (Schuler) MacVeigh. He was the beloved husband of the late Marge MacVeigh. He is survived by his son, John J. "Johnny" MacVeigh, IV, and Johnny's stepsister, Gloria Laken. His stepchildren, Mary Lou Baker (Glenn), William Hagner (Lois), and Christopher Hagner (Alexis), all of whom he embraced as his own. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Jack was a proud alumnus of Lafayette College and a US Navy Veteran. His commitment to public service was further exemplified in his remarkable tenure as the Mayor of Glenolden, PA, for 20 years. He retired from John Hancock Insurance Company. Jack's passion for community service was evident in his role as the former Chief, past president, and lifetime member of the Glenolden Fire Company, Station 5. He was extremely proud to be a member of the fire company for 77 years. He was the current president of the Glenolden Fire Company Relief Association and a volunteer for the Delaware County Housing Authority Jack was a talented athlete, having played baseball, basketball, and football in school and college. After his retirement, he became the pitching coach for the Widener University Baseball Team. All of Jack's family, friends, and fellow firefighters, are invited to a graveside service to be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Edgewood Memorial Park, 325 Baltimore Pike, Glen Mills, PA. All are invited to attend a reception, immediately following the service, at the Glenolden Fire Company, 123 South Chester Pike, Glenolden, PA, 19036.
