Umps’ Association Honors Erma Man

Umps’ Association Honors Erma Man

By Joe Rossi

ERMA – Joseph Schaffer was named Amateur Softball Association 2015 Rookie of the Year for the ASA 6th District Umpire Association.
The 42-year-old Bucks Electric Co. vice president resides in Erma with his spouse, Yulia, and daughters, Kahlan, 7, and Samantha, 6.
“I became an umpire because it gives me the chance to not only keep things fair but also to make sure everyone has fun and that everyone remembers that it’s just a game.”
Schaffer’s father, Ralph, won the same award in the early ’80s.
ASA umpires serve adult softball leagues in Cape May and Atlantic counties. Schaffer was cited by the group for his dedication to the craft and his eagerness to improve.
