For a weekend of high-speed, pulse-pounding action featuring powerboats reaching speeds up to 140 MPH, head to Sunset Lake in the Wildwoods, Rambler Road and New Jersey Ave., Oct. 10-11 for the Governor’s Cup Hydrofest.
Each race is four laps over a one-mile oval course, presenting a challenge of driving skill and timing for the racers and their sleek, high-powered vessels.
Wildwoods Hydrofest is sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association and the Canadian Boating Federation. This year’s event will feature over 70 powerboat teams from 11 different classes competing for national and international honors.
A total of $20,000 in prize money will be awarded among the winning teams, along with plaques and trophies.
This year, the event is now home to the New Jersey Governor’s Cup and this year’s North American Championship—two prestigious titles all powerboat-racing teams would love to have.
The North American Championship is an esteemed, international powerboat title that can be won by any team in the world competing at the event. U.S. teams, along with powerboat teams from Canada, will be competing for the Championship this year in the Wildwoods. North American Championship honors will be awarded to winning powerboat teams in each class represented in the event.
The New Jersey Governor’s Cup is a state recognized honor that will be given annually to a powerboat team racing in the Wildwoods Hydrofest, beginning at this year’s event.
High-speed powerboat races begin at 11 a.m. Wildwoods Hydrofest will also feature powerboat racing merchandise, craft and food vendors from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. both days.
The event is free for spectators. Special pit passes are on sale for $10 and allow pass-holders access to the pit area to meet the racers and to get an up-close look at the powerboats.
