Escape the Cape Triathlon Annual Event Draws 1,700 Athletes

NORTH CAPE MAY – There were 1,700 athletes who tested their resilience and leaped into the Fifth Annual Escape the Cape Triathlon June 4. 
The athletes started the race with a 12-foot jump off the Cape May-Lewes Ferry into Delaware Bay. After swimming ashore, they biked through the vineyards and back roads of Lower Township before running to the finish line, according to a release.
Voted the Best Triathlon in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Regions by Competitor, the Escape the Cape Triathlon presented by Inspira Health Network has also been included in a shortlist of bucket-list races by Triathlete Magazine and dubbed the “Escape Race of the East.”
Overall winners:
Olympic Distance
Overall Male: Jack Toland, 21, Bib 809 of Kirkland, Wash. with a time of 1:47:10.5.
Overall Female: Megan Martin, 34, Bib 562 of Williamsport, Md. with a time of 2:02:55.8.
Sprint Distance
Overall Male: Mike Caputo, 26, Bib 1714, of Staten Island, N.Y. with a time of 1:03:54.8.
Overall Female: Suzanne Stettinius, 29, Bib 1283, of Parkton, Md. with a time of 1:12:41.1.
